The storing of forage in a silo to cure into ensilage became popular in the United States in the s. To mechanize that process, the stationary silo filler was invented. Silo fillers started out as complicated machines which chopped bundles of green corn plants and piled the chopped corn into stacks to be elevated into silos. Eventually, stationary silo fillers were modified and simplified to a single-stage machine which chopped corn into the appropriate size and then blew the ensilage up a large pipe for distribution inside a silo, all in one step.
This was the stationary silo filler as it is most commonly known.

Highwheeler production started in , and this corporate logo was used on the model. By the ’30s, International Harvester was using a streamlined logo right side without the names spelled out. In , shortly before the Highwheelers were discontinued and the slope-nose trucks were introduced , the company started a new trend for International truck logos.

Some pages feature several different photographs of a vehicle type, whereas in other instances, a variety of photos showing one particular type of car might appear in more than one page.
Hopefully this new index of vintage vehicle photos will help visitors to the site find pics of the cars, lorries, coaches or vans that most interest them. Over the course of 20 years, Larry has draped the tractor in stainless steel bling. A machinist, Larry made or repurposed all of the tractor’s unique additions, from the distributor base to the dual exhaust and carburetor to the air cleaner recycled dog dish to the fan assembly and air cleaner. David Brown Selectamatic tractor By: Tom Dickson , Photography by: I know this for a fact because we had one and it was a ripper. The fact it has never been parked in a shed during its year life has certainly contributed to its deteriorated appearance, but not its performance. For the last 10 years of its time with us, we only pulled it out of retirement on a biannual basis. Each winter it provided PTO drive to a saw bench for firewood, then in the summer months we hitched it up to a foot trailer to cart in rolls of hay.
The starter motor was buggered so it took about 10 minutes of towing to get some fuel flowing through the system before it would fire up. Once it burnt off all the water and muck that it had sucked in through the broken oil-bath-type air cleaner, it ran like a dream. When it last left our property about 12 months ago, the battery was stuffed, the brakes were jammed, the air-cleaner was full of water, the power steering pump was shot and the rear linkage was frozen up.
So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that it is up and going again and performing hay-cutting duties thanks to a bit of handy work by Peter Gardiner from Colac Tractor Wreckers. The partially synchronised transmission has three forward gears and one reverse in each of four ranges: All up we had a total of 12 forward and four reverse gears to play with.
