The headwaters of the North Fork and most of its tributaries are accessible by foot or horseback only.

So this post may seem random or disorganized, but this is how I think most of the time and I am trying to remember the details of a week ago. It was bittersweet to prepare cereal and milk! We have become so accustomed to our mobile living unit and all its secret compartments, quirks, and the rhythm of the processes for set up and tear down, slide out, sweep the floor, slide in. We were a little melancholy on the drive to the Great Alaskan Holidays parking lot. We did have a 10AM turn in deadline and also had to top off the gas and propane tank.

It was sad saying good-bye to our portable home. We had grown so accustom to her every nook and cranny, the sound of her engine, the wonderful heat she provided on those 6 blanket nights. But it was time to think about going home…but not before one last adventure in Anchorage…. We rented bikes at an outfit in downtown Anchorage. Our back ends were experiencing a different kind of fatigue following this adventure. The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail runs along the Cook Inlet from downtown to a park at the outermost point, and the trail starts right from the downtown area, and follows a path through a combination of residential, park, and wilderness areas, and includes the Anchorage airport runway.

Power and water were consistent and adequate. You’ll need a splitter to share water with the neighbor. Sites were very narrow, and they were not long – ours was just long enough for our 30′ motorhome, no room for our towed vehicle. If the adjacent RV site had been occupied, we would not have been able to put out our canopy – each site was 16′ exactly wide.

There was also an awkward orientation to the treed sites – the odd numbered sites would have required the sewer and hookups to be on the driver’s side, or run the lines under the RV, or you’d have to nose into the site. We occupied an even numbered site, so we could back in keeping super close to water and electric towers and use our normal hookups.
